My Community: 8th Annual Founders’ Day Awards

The Greater Lansing Area Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club, Inc. (GLAC) celebrated its 28th Annual Founders’ Day Awards at the Days Inn Lansing. The organization supports African American businesswomen and aims to improve the overall quality of life, locally and globally. The theme for this year’s ceremony was “Women Leaders Emerging in a Global Society,” and the keynote speaker of the evening was the Rev. Dr. Wilma R. Johnson, senior pastor of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit and author of Giving Away My Joy.

The GLAC honored several men and women who have made a positive impact on the Lansing area community. Glenda Hammond received the Sojourner Truth Award, one of the highest honors. Dr. Don E. Coleman was presented with the Frederick Douglass Award; Robert Husband received the Business Excellence Award for his hair salon; and the Community Service Award went to Honorable Judge Amy Krause. Charles Tucker and Sharonda Hudson received the Youth on the Move Awards.
